WHAT IS OPTOMAP?
Optomap Ultra-Widefield Retinal imaging is included in our Advanced Eyecare Examination and enables your Optometrist to view a much larger area of the inside of your eye than we have previously been able to see.

This latest technology enables us to see around 80% of the retina. Traditionally, we have only been able to see a fraction of this. For more information visit https://www.optomap.com

The images are taken while standing or sitting and the procedure is quick and painless - just like having a close-up photograph. We usually take around 3 images of each eye.

DO I NEED OPTOMAP?

No! If you would rather not know of any problems with your eyes, then please ask NOT to have Optomap. It is known to pick up eye diseases and problems at a very early stage.
However, should you wish to receive an early diagnosis, you may chose to have this added on to your basic eye examination. Alternatively, the Optometrist may, during the course of your appointment, decide it is in your best interests to upgrade you to the Advanced Eyecare Examination.

Hopefully, you will discover there is nothing wrong with your retinas, but without the use of this technology, we are unable to tell. Either way, it is advisable to take a baseline test on your first visit so we can compare this with images taken in the future and monitor any changes.
