OCT scans:

The amazing view inside your eye

The OCT scan

As Optical research progresses, better specialist equipment is available to us.  OCT, or Optical Coherence Tomography, is similar to an ultrasound scan and can scan through the many layers at the back of the eye to enable us to more effectively see if your retina is healthy.

This scan also helps us in the identification of potential eye problems, (including serious sight-impairing conditions) up to five years before they would normally be detected, so treatment can be commenced at a much earlier stage.  Some of the following conditions (and many others) can be detected early using this fantastic tool:

  • High blood pressure

  • Glaucoma

  • AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration)

  • Diabetes

This test can be part of your sight test where our Optician recommends it or if you just prefer to have it done. The OCT scan is non-contact, painless and quick, and together with our range of other diagnostic equipment and a thorough sight test, provides you with the best possible eye-care.

Our Optometrists are highly qualified and experienced, and are always happy to provide further information and answer any questions you may have during your eye examination.
