The amazing view inside your eye

The OCT scan

As Optical research progresses, better specialist equipment is available to us. OCT, (otherwise known as an Optical CT scan or OCT Wellness scan), is similar to a hospital ultrasound machine and scans through the many layers of the Retina. This enables us to more effectively see if your retina is healthy and identify changes up to five years before you notice any symptoms.

If you pay for a private sight exam, or belong to the Eyeplan eyecare scheme, these scans will be added to each eye exam at no additional charge. For NHS patients, they cost £12. We will take a baseline scan and fundus photo at your first visit, and compare the images each time you attend, to enable us to identify and monitor any potential changes in the health of your retina.

Some of the eye conditions that can be detected with our OCT wellness scan:

  • High blood pressure

  • Glaucoma

  • AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration)

  • Diabetes

We continually upgrade equipment used in sight tests and the current machine we use is an Optopol Revo OCT. The OCT Wellness scan is non-contact, painless and quick, and together with our range of other diagnostic equipment and a thorough sight test, provides you with the best possible eye-care.

Our Optometrists are highly qualified and experienced, and are always happy to provide further information and answer any questions you may have during your eye examination.
